CoreAlign From the Perspective of an Expert Physical Therapist ...

By?Angela Listug-Vap, DPT, FAAOMPT

The big picture to me is INJURY PREVENTION. The key to injury prevention is training the body to withstand the repetitive stress of running. In order to do this several areas must be addressed:

  1. Good STRENGTH in both your power muscles and stabilizers. It is frequently weak stabilizing muscles in the trunk, hip and lower leg that lead to the most common running injuries including ITB syndrome, Patellar Tendinitis, and Plantar Fasciitis.
  2. Maintaining good FLEXIBILITY and MOBILITY in your power muscles and lower extremity joints. With most running injuries tightness/stiffness in hamstrings, hip flexors, quadriceps, calves and/or ankle joints are playing a leading role.
  3. Solid BALANCE REACTIONS are important so as you move from one leg to the other you?ll be able to react to all the changes in ground forces without a second thought. The best way to improve balance reactions is to practice.
  4. Training your body to put all the above foundations together and use efficient MOVEMENT STRATEGIES to get the job done well.

CoreAlign is an exercise method that addresses all of the above in a functional position (standing) with the ability to use reciprocal gait patterns (moving legs in the same way we walk and run).? It gives variety to the body so you won?t get bored. A CoreAlign class or session is a huge time saver for the runner trying to ?get it all in?. Ideally one hour, twice a week and your body will reap all the benefits that a successful runner needs.? From a PT perspective it is a training and rehab gem.

Try CoreAlign for yourself! The Core Studio offers free scheduled 15 minute demos, or sign up for a free ?Feel It First? hour-long class ?on the first Monday of each month. ?Find out more information by viewing our Core Studio website by clicking here, or?call 406-541-2606 to reserve your spot.

Significant Features of Joomla VirtueMart Development | SeaShore ...

Although it functions with both Joomla and Mambo but Joomla VirtueMart setup is the most admired and hugely accepted combination.
Joomla-VirtueMart
In today?s world of internet when businesses are trying to offer best possible browsing and shopping experience to their customers while keeping the costs low, Joomla VirtueMart addresses all their specific needs, allowing them to build a highly functional and easy-to-operate ecommerce store.

The combination offers a range of numerous other significant features and benefits, helping you achieve a wonderful online store. Joomla VirtueMart development requires special expertise if you?re aiming to get a fully-functional and feature packed customized website.

Downloading and installing Joomla may seem easier but customization needs thorough knowledge and experience. Similarly, integrating VirtueMart into a Joomla website requires technical knowledge. In order to make this happen, you will have to hire expert Joomla VirtueMart developers.

Recruiting resources in-house is an expensive proposition. But fortunately, there is another way out. You can simply outsource the job to a web development company and minimize the risk and cost of development. If the scope of your project is more or you?re looking to make changes in it every now and then or keep it evolving all through, it?s ideal to hire Joomla VirtueMart developers offshore. They work as an extension to your in-house IT team from a remote location according to your time zone. Moreover, you save up to 50-60 percent of the total cost of development.

However, if you?re skeptical about hiring resources from an offshore development company, you can consider looking for a company that is based in US only but has an offshore development center in countries like India. This way, you not only ensure localized communication but also cost-effective development.

Shooting at South Carolina university wounds one

CHARLESTON, South Carolina (Reuters) - A 19-year-old student died following a shooting on Tuesday at a residence hall of a South Carolina university near the resort area of Myrtle Beach, and authorities were searching for a gunman, university officials said.

Anthony Liddell, a sophomore from Bennettsville, South Carolina, died following the shooting at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, the university said in a statement.

The shooting occurred just before 7:30 p.m. at University Place, an apartment-style residence hall that is home to nearly 2,000 students.

Residence halls would remain on lockdown throughout the night, but the gunman was believed to have fled campus, school officials said. Classes will be held Wednesday, the statement said.

"The suspect fled in a vehicle. The campus is still on lockdown, although people in classrooms were allowed to go home. Those in dorms were advised to stay inside," said Mona Prufer, a university spokeswoman.

Conway police gave no information on the motive for the shooting and referred questions to state police, which did not return phone calls.

The nation remains on edge over gun violence following the elementary school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, in December, in which 20 children and six adults were shot and killed.

That rampage reignited a broad national debate over gun control and prompted President Barack Obama to push Congress to pass tighter gun restrictions.

More than 9,000 students attend Coastal Carolina University, which was founded in 1954 as Coastal Carolina Junior College and became an independent university in 1993.

Counselors and ministers will provide assistance on Wednesday to students at a campus chapel and at residence halls, the university said.

Mursi's opponents say will boycott Egypt elections

CAIRO (Reuters) - An alliance of Egyptian opposition parties decided on Tuesday to boycott parliamentary elections in protest at an election law they say favors the Muslim Brotherhood, increasing the chance that Islamists will sweep the vote.

The boycott by liberal and leftist parties opposed to President Mohamed Mursi aims to undermine the legitimacy of the vote and shows the polarization that has defined Egyptian politics since Hosni Mubarak was toppled two years ago.

It raises the prospect of an election fought mostly between Mursi's Muslim Brotherhood and more hardline Islamist groups such as the Salafi Nour Party. The vote is to be held in four stages between late April and June.

The National Salvation Front (NSF) - an array of liberal and leftist parties struggling to compete with the Islamists - said there should be no elections for the lower house of parliament without a law guaranteeing fair polls.

The law was passed this month by the Islamist-dominated upper house of parliament, which has been exercising legislative power in the absence of a lower house. The Islamists deny opposition accusations that the law divides constituencies in a way that favors the Muslim Brotherhood.

"There can be no elections without a law that guarantees the fairness of the election process and a government that can implement such a law and be trusted by the people," said Sameh Ashour, a spokesman for the NSF, who also called for "real independence of the judiciary".

With deep grass roots networks, the Islamists have won all elections since Mubarak was swept from power in a popular uprising that for a while brought Egyptians together in a display of unity rarely seen since then.

Divisions between the Islamists and their opponents have widened since Mursi won last year's presidential election. Tensions spilt into lethal street violence late last year when the president was accused of staging a power grab - accusations the Islamists dismissed as propaganda.

Seeking to convince the opposition to take part, Mursi invited them to talks on Tuesday to address concerns about the vote, but the alliance declined to attend. "We tell President Mursi: talk with yourself and your party," Ashour said.

Mursi went ahead with the talks anyway. "I hope these elections will be fully fair," he told the televised meeting attended by Islamists, smaller parties and independents. "We all bear the responsibility and I bear the most responsibility."

Mursi said he hoped "our dear brothers who did not meet us today" would join the talks at a later date.

"OPPRESSIVE POLICIES"

If the past is anything to go by, Mursi and the Brotherhood will press on regardless. In December, he held a referendum on a constitution opposed by the opposition, securing its approval and signing it into law despite fierce protest.

"The call for boycott indicates the lack of trust the opposition has in the Brotherhood government and may also speak to their own capacities to effectively compete should they run," said Elijah Zarwan, a Cairo-based political analyst.

The boycott means parties led by some of the most prominent non-Islamist politicians will sit out the vote.

These include the Popular Current led by Hamdeen Sabahy, a leftist who came third in the presidential election won by Mursi last June, and the Dustour Party led by Mohamed ElBaradei, a former U.N. nuclear agency chief.

"This is to protest against the elections law that we did not participate in drafting, and about which our opinion was not taken," said Heba Yassin, a spokeswoman for Popular Current. "We reject the continuation of Mursi's oppressive policies that have led to nothing but more bloodshed and political problems."

The lower house was dissolved last year after a court ruled that the previous election law used to elect it was illegal.

The Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party won about 40 percent of seats in the old lower house, with the Nour Party in second place. The Nour Party announced this week that it would take part in the elections.

Hassan Nafaa, a political scientist and a critic of the Muslim Brotherhood, said the boycott would undermine the legitimacy of the election. But he also foresaw some parties eventually breaking the boycott.

"If one of the front parties decided to enter the elections at a later stage, this will be a major blow," he said.

Police arrested 55 people on Tuesday during a failed attempt to re-open Tahrir Square which has been occupied by anti-Mursi demonstrators since November, a security source said.

State media described the police operation as a "peaceful process" that prompted a violent reaction from street venders who threw petrol bombs. Police removed barbed wire barricades, briefly opening the square to traffic, but they were swiftly re-erected by the youths that man them, the source said.

Stop Cowering and Buy Stocks: McCall | Breakout - Yahoo! Finance

Stocks fell sharply yesterday on news of a worst-case-scenario election outcome in Italy. The S&P 500 fell 1.8% to close at 1,487, well below key support at 1,500. Even worse for the bulls the drop came after early gains, creating a 2.5% intraday reversal. Investors who have long claimed to be waiting to "buy a dip" were nowhere to be founder.

Matt McCall, founder and president of Penn Financial Group says the price action is positive even if it is maddening. "Every time we see any kind of pullback buyers jump in," notes McCall in the attached video. Despite breaking short-term support McCall thinks a drop is constructive. Markets that go up in a straight line can't be trusted. The short sharp declines are frustrating but part of the process of getting equities into strong hands.

Speaking of strong hands, plenty of folks have been clinging to cash in the hopes of getting a chance to "buy the dip." Those would-be investors have been stuck waiting for that correction for at least the last 10% move in the broader tape. McCall says investors on the sidelines are getting too cute with their entry points, missing chances to get long stocks.

"Anytime you actually get a 5% pullback the investor that's waiting for it when it happens (investors) are too scared because they read headlines that tells them it's the end of the world."

With the end of the world now upon us once again McCall thinks it's time to start buying. He likes the lumber sector, pointing to the iShares S&P Global Timer and Forestry Index ETF (WOOD) as a personal favorite.

Day after Oscars, Senate committee drops bin Laden film probe

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - One day after "Zero Dark Thirty" failed to win major awards at the Oscars, a congressional aide said on Monday the Senate Intelligence Committee has closed its inquiry into the filmmakers' contacts with the Central Intelligence Agency.

The intelligence committee gathered more information from the CIA, film director Kathryn Bigelow, and screenwriter Mark Boal and will not take further action, according to the aide, who requested anonymity.

Sony Pictures Entertainment, which produced the film, had no immediate comment. But attacks by Washington politicians may have damaged its prospects at the Academy Awards. "Zero Dark Thirty" was nominated for a best picture award, which it did not win. Also, in what industry watchers considered a snub, Bigelow did not receive a best director nomination.

The Senate committee launched its review of the film, a dramatization of how the U.S. government located and killed Osama bin Laden, after its chairwoman, Senator Dianne Feinstein, expressed outrage over scenes that implied that "enhanced interrogations" of CIA detainees produced an breakthrough that helped lead to the al Qaeda leader.

In December, as "Zero Dark Thirty" was about to premiere nationwide, Feinstein joined fellow Democrat Carl Levin, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and Republican Senator John McCain in condemning "particularly graphic scenes of CIA officers torturing detainees" in the film.

A source familiar with contacts between the filmmakers and intelligence officials said the CIA did not tell the filmmakers "enhanced interrogations" led to bin Laden. Instead, the agency helped develop characters in the film, said the source.

The political fallout prompted Bigelow to write in an op-ed piece: "Those of us who work in the arts know that depiction is not endorsement. If it was, no artist would be able to paint inhumane practices, no author could write about them, and no filmmaker could delve into the thorny subjects of our time."

The government cooperated as much, if not more, on "Argo," the film about the 1979-81 hostage crisis in Iran that won the best picture Oscar. Actor-director Ben Affleck and his team were allowed to film scenes in the lobby of the CIA building in Langley, Virginia; the "Zero Dark Thirty" crew did no such filming.

(AP) ? Judgment day is approaching in an epic battle between Argentina and New York billionaire Paul Singer, who has sent lawyers around the globe trying to force the South American country to pay its defaulted debts.

Three U.S. appellate judges hear oral arguments in New York on Wednesday in the case, NML Capital Ltd. v. Argentina. The case has shaken bond markets, worried bankers, lawyers and diplomats, captivated financial analysts and generated enough "friend of the court" briefs to kill a small forest.

Much more is at stake than the future of Argentina's shaky economy, which could collapse if President Cristina Fernandez goes into default rather than pay a judgment of more than $1.3 billion to the plaintiffs, whom she calls "vulture funds."

The U.S. Federal Reserve and the world's largest banks have warned that the smooth functioning of the global funds-transfer system is threatened by U.S. District Judge Thomas Griesa's unusual proposal for forcing Argentina to pay. The same appellate judges hearing arguments Wednesday have already broadly upheld Griesa's plan but want more details on how it would work.

Argentina and the Obama administration both argued that the judge's remedy could make debt relief harder for troubled economies, dooming their citizens to more years of poverty than necessary.

"While the U.S. government does not condone Argentina's actions in the international financial arena," this ruling also could damage U.S. foreign policy, threaten U.S. assets overseas and even harm the U.S. dollar by persuading nations to take their bond business elsewhere, the administration's brief said.

Here are some questions and answers on how so much could be at stake in what seems to be a simple contract dispute:

Q. What was Griesa's ruling?

A. The judge wants U.S. financial institutions to become his enforcers, diverting the payments that Argentina makes to other bondholders if it doesn't first pay an equal amount to the plaintiffs. The Bank of New York, which normally processes the payments, would have to redirect the money to the plaintiffs, and banks say such interventions could threaten the automatic nature of the U.S. electronic funds transfer system, which is vital to the global economy.

Q. Who are the bondholders already being repaid?

A. More than 92 percent of the debt from Argentina's world-record $100 billion default in 2001 was restructured in 2005 and 2010. Argentina gave them new bonds initially worth less than 30 cents on the dollar. These "exchange bondholders" are slowly regaining their original investments: Most already have been paid 71 cents for each dollar invested. This slow recuperation is what debt relief looks like for troubled economies ? it has been key to Argentina's recovery.

Q. Who are the bondholders who went to court?

A. A small group refused the debt swaps and filed suit instead. Griesa ruled in their favor, and ordered the Bank of New York to reroute any payments that Argentina makes to other bondholders until the plaintiffs get paid in full, plus interest.

Q. Why go to such extremes?

A. Argentina has ignored a number of court judgments, and Griesa is determined to get satisfaction after many years of litigation. Argentina still hasn't made payments on $10 billion in defaulted debt dating from its 2001 economic collapse. Adding other unpaid judgments, loans and other claims, including $10.5 billion sought by Grupo Repsol for the YPF oil company expropriated last year, Argentina owes as much as $61 billion.

Q. What about NML Capital's position that Argentina's central bank holds enough currency reserves to easily pay the $1.3 billion sought by the plaintiffs?

A. Argentina's dollar reserves dropped to $41 billion this week as uncertainty fueled capital flight. More than half of that is already loaned out or otherwise committed, and Argentina says the reserves can't withstand the demands of creditors for immediate payment of $43 billion that would be triggered if it was forced to pay Singer's group. Graham Fisher analyst Joshua Rosen, however, says: "Argentina is a $450 billion, G-20 economy, and the government has numerous other sources of liquidity" if it decides to negotiate a deal.

Q. What are the arguments over Griesa basing his ruling on the "equal treatment" clause in Argentina's 1990s-era bond contracts?

A. NML Capital says getting paid immediately in full, plus interest, is more than fair, because the plaintiffs spent millions litigating while the holders of swap bonds were getting regular payments. A group of the latter bondholders counters that there's nothing fair about taking other people's property, or getting as much as a 1,500 percent return on debt bought for pennies on the dollar.

Q. What about Argentina's suggestion that "equal treatment" could be provided through a new debt swap giving holdouts the same terms others accepted?

A. Anna Gelpern, an American University law professor who has closely followed the case, says Argentina is arguing for a bankruptcy concept of fairness ? that when debtors can't pay, all creditors must suffer, accepting less so that recovery can happen more quickly. Sovereign debt relief depends on this concept, and many of the legal briefs reflect a desire that the courts invoke it while engineering a comprehensive solution to Argentina's debt problems. But Gelpern says the appeals panel is more likely to base its ruling in simple contract terms, as in, "they owe the money, and they need to pay."

Q. What's the end game?

A. Expect the appellate ruling in two to four months. Most analysts predict Argentina will lose and further appeals will be turned down, giving this panel the final word. Since Argentina appears unwilling to settle out of court, J.P. Morgan analyst Vladimir Werning says, "This boils down to a blueprint for an end game where Argentina snuffs N.Y. law, its courts and its payment system and it offers restructured bondholders the option of getting paid fully in Buenos Aires."

Q. Would Argentina really pull out of the U.S. financial system?

A. Economist Rodolfo Rossi, Argentina's central bank president in the 1990s, says ending up "completely isolated and refusing to pay its debts" would only bring more trouble for the country. Like many Argentines who have backed Fernandez's fight against the holdouts, he says she can't show weakness now, but has to settle eventually in order to refinance all of Argentina's debts and bring back investment.

Lab21, IntegraGen collaborate to develop colorectal cancer assay ...

Diagnostic products and services provider Lab21 and IntegraGen have entered into a partnership agreement for the development of a microRNA assay for colorectal cancer.

Under the agreement, Lab21 will use its proprietary SPARQ PCR technology to develop a CE-marked assay for the detection of expression levels of a microRNA biomarker known as hsa-mir-31-3p, discovered and patented by IntegraGen and its academic partners.

Early research conducted on the biomarker has shown that it may predict response to EGFR inhibitor therapy in KRAS-wild type patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.

"Lab21 will use its proprietary SPARQ PCR technology to develop a CE-marked assay for the detection of expression levels of a microRNA biomarker known as hsa-mir-31-3p, discovered and patented by IntegraGen and its academic partners."

MicroRNA expression testing also helps clinicians to identify the KRAS-wild type patients most likely to respond to treatment, including improving outcomes, avoiding adverse reactions and saving money in the healthcare system, according to IntegraGen.

Lab21 CEO Graham Mullis said; "The combination of our highly efficient assay development capability, regulatory and manufacturing know-how is actively being sought by developers of novel diagnostics, such as IntegraGen, who need partners to commercialise their biomarkers, including a route to market."

Financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed.

IntegraGen CEO Bernard Courtieu said the company is pleased to work with Lab21 to progress the biomarker towards commercialisation in Europe.

"On the basis of good clinical results and regulatory approval we hope to have a CE-Marked kit available based on Lab21's technology by early 2014," Courtieu said.

Following the development of the assay, Lab21 and IntegraGen will explore other opportunities for partnerships relative to the manufacturing and commercialisation of the oncology biomarker.

ZTE announces Grand Memo: first Android smartphone with 1.5GHz Snapdragon 800 processor

Image

Today marks the third time we've come across ZTE's Grand Memo. Except now, the Chinese OEM's unveiling it as the first to feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 processor. The Grand Memo's 5.7-inch display size has remained the same, but the screen on this new 8.5mm thick LTE variant will now pack a 1080p resolution -- a handy spec given its usability as a multimedia point of consumption. The audio experience on this tabletphone will also get a suitable premium bump with the inclusion of Dolby Digital Surround. Apart from all that, there's still a 13-megapixel camera module on back and healthy 3,200mAh battery inside its plastic shell. No specifics regarding pricing and regional availability were given, but we can expect to see it launch sometime "this year."

Update: ZTE's confirmed that the Grand Memo will initially launch in China and then Europe soon after. As for its US destiny, all we were told is that the company's exploring its options.

Mike Eruzione Jersey Auction: 'Miracle On Ice' Artifact Scores Almost $660K

NEW YORK ? The jersey worn by hockey great Mike Eruzione in the U.S. Miracle on Ice victory over the Soviet Union at the 1980 Winter Olympics was auctioned for almost $660,000 Saturday, though surprising strong interest in the stick he used to score the winning goal and his gold medal game jersey pushed the overall sale to more than $1.3 million.

Spirited bidding drove the value of the hockey stick to $262,900, more than five times the $50,000 it was expected to go for as a 9-year-old boy and his father outbid others, earning a high-five slap and a hug for the youth from Eruzione himself.

Gloves he wore throughout the Olympic tournament sold for $53,775, more than 10 times their pre-auction estimates. The blue jersey the team's captain wore to win the gold against Finland fetched $286,800. Even his warm-up suit sold for $26,290 while his red pants went for $28,680.

As expected, the No. 21 white jersey worn during the epic come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Soviets scored highest, rising to finish at $657,250 during several rounds of bidding. The outcome in Lake Placid, N.Y., was surprising because the U.S. team was largely made up of amateurs playing against a Soviet team of professionals widely considered unbeatable. The 33rd anniversary of the historic game was Friday.

"Tonight, we saw collectors show Mike Eruzione, and that entire team, how highly they think of him and of the things he achieved," said Chris Ivy, director of sports at the Dallas-based Heritage Auctions. "It couldn't have happened to a nicer, more giving person."

Ivy said there were about 20 to 25 active bidders in a room of more than 140 people, with even more online or on the telephone.

"There was a lot of action, a lot of interest in his material," Ivy said. Eruzione spoke to the bidders before bidding began, telling them what the materials meant to him and saying that the sale would help his children and charity.

The Soviet-game jersey did not reach the over $1 million it was projected to draw, but Ivy said the better-than-expected sales of other items and bidding on 18 more lots on Sunday was expected to push the overall value of the sale to its goal of $1.5 million.

Heritage did not immediately release the buyers' names, saying it wasn't known if they wanted to be identified.

Ivy said the buyers "were collectors but they were very happy about Mike." He said the 9-year-old boy had watched the movie about Eruzione and "knew exactly who he was and was very pleased to meet him."

Eruzione, 58, sold the Olympic items to benefit his three adult children and a grandson, along with the Winthrop Foundation, which finances charities in his hometown of Winthrop, Mass., just outside Boston.

Though he received no lucrative endorsements after the hockey victory, Eruzione said in a recent interview that he was not hurting financially.

"I thought this would be a great little nest egg for them for their future with their kids," he said.

He added that the memorabilia had remained in his USA hockey bag in the attic of his home since the historic Olympic victories.

Still, he kept one treasure.

"As long as I'm alive, the gold medal won't be sold," said Eruzione, now director of special outreach at Boston University and a partner in a nutritional supplement business that includes several other ex-Olympians, including gymnasts Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner.

Investing in social media takes time to get right | Stuff.co.nz

Q: Should my business have a presence on social media?

A: This is a question many companies are asking, and the default answer to "just be there" is a bad one.

Social media is like any communication channel. To make it work you have to invest in it, and the nature of social media means it is a constant investment. You have to have time and mental resources to contribute to the channel.

A frank assessment of where your clients and potential clients are looking for services and products like yours is important. If your customers are farmers, you might want to ask whether Twitter is a forum you want to be on. The rural markets will no doubt be on social media somewhere, but define where and target those channels consciously.

You'll need to weigh up whether the investment is worthwhile too. Are you looking to gain sales through social media? Or simply build profile? Is it a channel to communicate to your membership only? These goals will define whether social media (and what channels) are appropriate for your business.

If you do this assessment and decide you're going to do it, ask the next question. What do you have to say? The social media space is so crowded that you have to appraise whether you have compelling content to populate social media broadcasts with.

Having something your audience thinks is worth hearing (ie, instructive, informative, controversial or humorous are some characteristics that underpin online cut-through) is critical or your investment is effectively social media white noise.

Social media consultancies abound, and many charge chronic fees for advice you can Google for free. But getting someone who knows their stuff to critique your social media footprint is invaluable. Ask around, look at what your competitors are doing, and build a picture of what you think you need and then ask someone to check it out.

The true test, though, is whether it works. Under all circumstances, test and measure what you do, and match it against what your business needs. Social media takes time, and that's the one resource we can't buy more of.

A: Social media is not for every business. Social media is about customer engagement not company broadcast.

Check whether your current customers frequent social media forums and use them for discussion about your type of product or service.

As a business owner you should acquaint yourself with social media tools and listen to start with. Only commit to creating Facebook and the like if it's relevant to your target market.

Toronto, Ontario (PRWEB) February 24, 2013

Numero Uno Web Solutions (NumeroUnoWeb.com), a fast-growing global Internet marketing firm that caters to small- and mid-sized business-to-consumer companies, is pleased to announce its top uncommon tips for building quality links for brands that saw their online rankings hurt after Google?s introduced its link-based algorithmic filter, ?Penguin.?

In 2012, Google introduced the first of its Penguin updates in an effort to promote high-quality content sites. Penguin also penalized low-quality content web sites it deemed to be spamming. For better link performance, search engine algorithms now place a greater emphasis on original, high-quality, relevant content and social media.

?Search engines gauge a site?s popularity, in part, based on backlinks. When search engine algorithms, like Google Penguin, find a site with a lot backlinks, it concludes that the site provides quality information and should be rewarded with a high ranking,? explains Mark Reuter, Business Development Manager at Numero Uno Web Solutions.

The experts at Numero Uno Web Solutions say that In addition to tested and proven search engine optimization (SEO) techniques, small- and medium-sized businesses need to employ uncommon link building strategies if they want to reach a broader audience, boost traffic, and get their site to rank higher on search engine results pages (SERPs).

?To generate buzz and put a brand in the spotlight, small- and medium-sized businesses can create a contest. Whether it?s promoted on the site directly or sponsored through another forum, a contest that is aligned with the brand?s interests can increase the target audience and build incoming links,? Reuter notes.

As the experts note, everyone wants exposure. Businesses looking to build quality links might want to consider interviewing a noteworthy person or using a prominent guest blogger. Quoting an influential person in an interview or having them post something on a web site is an effective way of increasing brand exposure. Web traffic can increase from those that follow certain authorities; it can also increase from the blogger linking back to the article they wrote.

?Changes to search engine algorithms and new SEO techniques mean small- and medium-sized businesses need to update their SEO strategies if they want to have a successful online presence,? Reuter adds.

As online experts, Numero Uno Web Solutions can help small- and medium-sized businesses design an SEO campaign that incorporates innovative link-building strategies. To learn more about Numero Uno Web Solutions, visit the company?s web site at http://numerounoweb.com/sitescore/.

The Pet Matchmaker ? FARM PETS & FARM ANIMALS

dogs on the farm1When you live on a farm or ranch, or even near one, you soon realize the difference between farm pets and farm animals. Often, you?ll have both on your own place. Or maybe you?re visiting a farm with your dog or cat. Whether you live on or near a farm, or you?re just passing through, there are some important things to keep in mind regarding your pets.

Just because there is room to roam doesn?t mean your pets should roam ? at least unattended. This is especially true for dogs. They still need your care and attention. There are many dangers for our dogs in the country ? seen and unseen.?You might be nodding, recognizing the obvious ? such as roads with not just cars and trucks but farm equipment driving on them. These roads, unlike urban roads, have steeper ditches with less opportunities for drivers to swerve to avoid hitting your pet.

Other dangers for your pet are the farm animals themselves. A cow or a horse, even a goat or sheep, can kick or gore a dog ? especially when they are unfamiliar with the animal or when they are protecting their young. Canines are natural predators, and many animals react to them instinctively, regardless of their status as a farm pet, working farm dog or wild animal. If you?re walking in a field, be aware of where you are and where your pet is. A horse or cow can kick surprisingly far and hard. Although they may not intend it, even you could be their target!?Fences and wires, barbed and electric, can be serious hazards to an unaware dog. Tangled up in page wire can lead to serious cuts and abrasions as well.

Taking proper care of your animals on the farm includes knowing that they have safe sources of clean water. Keep chemicals, especially things like antifreeze, away from them. Poisoning is a dreadful death and in many rural areas there are no nearby 24 vet clinics. An hour on the road with an ill pet could be one of the worst of your life.

Your dogs and cats can also be a threat to farm animals. Most dogs have a prey drive instinct, and when they see barn cats, geese, ducks, chickens, calves and foals, that drive can kick in. Cats are predators, too and can attack surprisingly large prey if they feel the hunter?s need to stalk and capture. Unfortunately, most farm birds do not recover from such encounters.

How can you protect your animals? There are some simple steps that are very effective. Know the farm you are at. Whether you live there or are visiting, know the hazards. Identify them and make sure you keep your animals away from those places. Make sure your children and others who play with your pets know there are areas that are completely off limits and tell them where it is safe to run and play. An empty pasture is a great place for playing ball, for example, but a calving pen is not.

Farm pets should never be left unattended in the farm yard ? yours or anyone else?s?. Working farm dogs should be supervised at all times, even livestock guardian dogs need to be checked on for their welfare, as well as the welfare of the farm animals. It doesn?t take long for a dog to take down and kill a young or small farm animal. Being responsible pet parents requires us to know where our pets are, to keep them under control and to enjoy life with them. There is nothing more satisfying than a spring walk in the fields with your dogs. Your job as their guardian includes ensuring they are not put into situations where they can make tragic choices based on instinct.

Enjoy life in the country, on the farm, but don?t forget that freedom has a price. And that price, for those living in the country, is increased responsibility for ourselves, our pets and our neighbors.

Side note: farm pets and farm dogs need our care for food, water and shelter. Do not leave your farm animals without shelter during extreme weather. If they are not in the house, ensure they have a shed, barn or other safe place to go in storms or other extreme conditions. Don?t leave your dogs on chains or ropes without shelter, food, water and time with you.

Next time we?ll talk more about rural cats ? house cats, barn cats and feral cats.

(AP) ? The risks of racing extend beyond the drivers.

Fans can wind up in the danger zone, too.

A horrifying crash on the last lap of a race at Daytona International Speedway injured at least 30 fans Saturday and provided another stark reminder of what can happen when a car going nearly 200 mph is suddenly launched toward the spectator areas.

The victims were sprayed with large chunks of debris ? including a tire ? after rookie Kyle Larson's machine careened into the fencing that is designed to protect the massive grandstands lining NASCAR's most famous track.

"I love the sport," said Shannan Devine, who witnessed the carnage from her 19th-row seat, about 250 feet away. "But no one wants to get hurt over it."

The fencing served its primary purpose, catapulting what was left of Larson's car back onto the track. But it didn't keep potentially lethal shards from flying into the stands.

"There was absolute shock," Devine said. "People were saying, 'I can't believe it, I can't believe it. I've never seen this happen, I've never seen this happen. Did the car through the fence?' It was just shock and awe. Grown men were reaching out and grabbing someone, saying, 'Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!' It was just disbelief, absolute disbelief."

From Daytona to Le Mans to a rural road in Ireland, auto racing spectators have long been too close to the action when parts start flying. The crash in the second-tier Nationwide race follows a long list of accidents that have left fans dead or injured.

The most tragic incident occurred during the 1955 24 Hours of Le Mans, when two cars collided near the main stands. The wreck sent debris hurtling into the crowd, while one of the cars flipped upside down and exploded in a giant fireball.

Eighty-three spectators and driver Pierre Levegh were killed, and 120 fans were injured.

The Daytona crash began as the field approached the checkered flag and leader Regan Smith attempted to block Brad Keselowski. That triggered a chain reaction, and rookie Kyle Larson hit the cars in front of him and went airborne into the fence.

The entire front end was sheared off Larson's car, and his burning engine wedged through a gaping hole in the fence. Chunks of debris from the car were thrown into the stands, including a tire that cleared the top of the fence and landed midway up the spectator section closest to the track.

"I thought the car went through the fence," Devine said. "I didn't know if there was a car on top of people. I didn't know what to think. I'm an emotional person. I immediately started to cry. It was very scary, absolutely scary. I love the speed of the sport. But it's so dangerous."

The fencing used to protect seating areas and prevent cars from hurtling out of tracks has long been part of the debate over how to improve safety.

Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti lost close friend Dan Wheldon at Las Vegas in the 2011 IndyCar season finale, when Wheldon's car catapulted into the fencing and his head struck a support post. Since his death, IndyCar drivers have called for studies on how to improve the safety barriers.

Franchitti renewed the pleas on Twitter after the Daytona crash, writing "it's time (at)Indycar (at)nascar other sanctioning bodies & promoters work on an alternative to catch fencing. There has to be a better solution."

Another fan who witnessed the crash said he's long worried that sizable gaps in the fencing increase the chances of debris getting through to the stands.

"I've always thought the netting was very wide and pieces could fly through," said Lenny Brown, who was attending races at Daytona for the fourth time.

Among the most frightening accidents involving fans:

? In 1987, Bobby Allison's car lifted off the track at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama while running over 200 mph, careening into the steel-cable fence and scattering debris into the crowd. That crash led to the use of horsepower-sapping restrictor plates at Talladega and its sister track in Daytona, NASCAR's fastest layouts. As a result, the cars all run nearly the same speed, and the field is typically bunched tightly together ? which plenty of drivers have warned is actually a more dangerous scenario than higher speeds.

? That same year, at the Indianapolis 500, a fan was killed when struck by a tire that came off Tony Bettenhausen's car. The tire bounced off the front of Roberto Guerrero's car and flew to the top row of the grandstand.

? In 1998, three fans were killed and six others were injured in CART's IndyCar race at Michigan International Speedway when Adrian Fernandez crashed, sending a tire and other parts into the stands.

? The following year, three fans were killed at Charlotte Motor Speedway during an Indy Racing League event when debris from an accident flew into the stands. The track never held another IndyCar race.

? In 2009, Talladega was the scene of another scary crash during a NASCAR Sprint Cup race. Carl Edwards' car sailed upside-down into the front-stretch fence on a furious dash to the finish line, showering the stands with debris. Seven fans sustained minor injuries.

? In 2010 at a National Hot Rod Association event in Chandler, Ariz., a woman was killed by a tire that flew off Antron Brown's crashing dragster at Firebird International Raceway. The wheel bounced a couple of times and soared over the grandstands ? missing the bulk of the spectators ? before it hit the woman.

? Also in 2010, at an off-road racing event in the Southern California desert, a truck flew off a jump and landed on a group of spectators, sending bodies flying. Eight were killed, 10 injured. There also have been deaths at the Baja 1000 and Dakar Rally, the two most famous off-road races, though multiple-death crashes into the crowd like the one in the Mojave Desert are rare.

? Last year, in a rally car race in Ireland, a car went out of control on a rural road and crashed into a crowd of about 30 spectators, killing two people and seriously injuring seven. Witnesses said the car crashed through a fence and into the onlookers before coming to rest on its side beside a home.

At Daytona, workers scurried to patch up the damaged fencing and left little doubt that the biggest race of the weekend, Sunday's Daytona 500, would go on as planned.

Brown, who saw the crash from his 38th-row seat in the Petty grandstand, said he would be back in the same section for the season-opening Sprint Cup event. He has no qualms about his safety, sitting so high up, but said he would think twice about the seats he had for the race two years ago.

"The last time I was here, we were only about six rows up," Brown said. "I had even told some people before the crash, 'I would never sit that close to the track ever again.'"

But someone surely will ? mindful of the risks but eager to be among more than 100,000 fans cheering on stock car racing's biggest stars.

"Here we are, playing money to sit next to cars going 195 mph," Devine said. "We do it because we love it. That's what we expect."

Another big-time Twitter app hits big wall: Falcon Pro can take no new users

Falcon Pro

Twitter's 100,000 user cap strikes again, which should surprise no one

Falcon Pro, one of the most popular third-party Android Twitter clients, has hit the infamous 100,000-user token limit. This means that unless you've already used and authorized Falcon Pro, you're not going to be able to log into Twitter from the app.

That, in a word, sucks. But neither should it surprise anyone.

Before you go and start leaving one-star reviews and whining on Google Play, you need to understand what happened, and who is at fault. Last August, Twitter announced it would be updating its API. Two major changes from that update come into play here. The first is that every call back to Twitter requires authentication, and that the number of tokens used to authenticate would be capped at 100,000 for new applications. If an existing application already has more than 100,000 users, its cap is set at double its existing user base. It sounds complicated, but what it means is that if someone were to build a Twitter client (like let's say, Falcon Pro) only 100,000 users could log into Twitter using it. Twitter can grant an exception, but they haven't yet as far as anyone is aware.

That's the why, now a look at who to blame for it. It's not the application developer's fault. Twitter makes them jump through hoops, and the folks building Twitter apps like Falcon Pro do a good job working inside Twitter's strict parameters. But the 100,000 token (read: user) limit can't be worked around. Twitter puts it there so no one third-party client can become dominant, or more popular than their own lackluster app. The cause of this one all lies at Twitter's feet.

What can we do, you ask? Well the first thing you'll want to do is release any tokens you're not using. This makes them available to someone else, and every little bit helps. After that, there's not much we can do about it. There's a petition going around about Falcon Pro hitting the limit, but Twitter isn't going to change policy over a petition. You've got two choices: find a different Twitter app, or stop using the service and vote with your feet.

I'm doing the latter.

Colorado Senate Considers Granting In-State Tuition to Illegal Immigrants

The Colorado state Senate gave an initial approval on a voice vote to Senate Bill 33 on Friday. The bill would allow in-state college tuition for illegal immigrants. Here are the details.

* According to the Denver Post , a recorded vote from the senate will be needed on the third reading of the bill before it can go to the house. The voice vote on Friday came along with debate and the support of three senate Republicans.

* The bill would allow students who does not have lawful immigration status to pay in-state tuition if that student has attended a public or private high school for at least three years immediately preceding graduation or completion of a general equivalency diploma and is admitted to a Colorado institution.

* The student must submit an affidavit stating that he or she has applied for lawful presence or will apply soon if able to do so.

* The bill exempts requirements that students receiving educational services or benefits from colleges in the state from providing any documentation of lawful presence in the U.S.

* According to the legislative analysis of the bill, an estimated 500 additional students would attend colleges within the state in 2013-14 if the bill passes.

* A General Fund appropriation of $930,000 would be required for the year in order to provide College Opportunity Fund stipends for the students. In addition the governing board tuition amounts would be increased for the fiscal year by $2,043,000.

* Sen. Kevin Lundberg, R-Berthoud, who opposes the bill, reported on Friday that, though the bill currently only affects a few hundred students, "it is the first official step Colorado will take down the road of amnesty. I am opposing the bill because I do not believe amnesty is fixing the problem."

* The final reading and vote on the bill will probably be on Monday, Lundberg stated.

* According to the Colorado Springs Gazette , the three Republicans in support of the bill include Owen Hill of Colorado Springs, Greg Brophy of Wray and Larry Crowder of Alamosa.

* Gov. John Hickenlooper is in favor of the bill, the Gazette reported.

* Earlier this month, the Colorado State University System Board of Governors voted to support the measure.

* "This isn't about immigration status," said Mary Lou Makepeace, a member of the board, "this is about ensuring that the pathways to opportunity are open to all of Colorado's children."
